Today, we’re talking to Jyotsnaa G Bansal, the author of Hypothyroidism Healed, who turned her struggle with thyroid issues into a journey of healing through alternative medicine and holistic practices. Diagnosed in 2018, she chose to explore natural methods like Reiki, yoga, and healthier living instead of just relying on traditional medication. In this interview, she shares the ups and downs of her healing journey, the role her family played, and her belief that we all have the power to take control of our health with the right support and mindset.

Q1. What inspired you to write “Hypothyroidism Healed” and what message do you hope readers take away from it?

Jyotsnaa: When I was diagnosed with thyroid issues in March 2018, I had never thought that someday I would be penning down my entire healing journey, with the motive to help thousands of Thyroid warriors who are facing similar problems in their daily lives.

Today, with this personal journey of overcoming hypothyroidism, I wish to share the message that healing is possible through alternative medicine, spiritual wisdom & holistic approaches to thyroid health. It’s not just about taking medicine, but also about making smart choices every day about your health, how you live, eating better, and keeping active.

Q2. Can you share a pivotal moment in your healing journey that shaped your approach to alternative medicine?

Jyotsnaa: Faced with the challenges of stress, fatigue, anxiety, weight gain & emotional turmoil, I was diagnosed with thyroid issues after my father’s untimely demise in Sep 2017.

Initially, traditional medicines & treatments were undertaken to control the situation. But me & my husband, Adv. Navit Bansal, both were not comfortable with the idea of life-long medication. Which paved the path for the journey of exploring the transformative power of alternative medicine & healing modalities. Later on, I shifted to homeopathic medicines, Thyroid Yogasanas, Reiki healing of specific Chakras, along the healing power of  Crystals

Q3. How has your understanding of holistic healing evolved since writing the book?

Jyotsnaa: While writing this book, I recollected all the practices that I followed during the healing journey & started the journey to add & gain some more knowledge about other holistic modalities. I further pursued Reiki up to the Grandmaster level. As I believe in continuous learning throughout life, I learned some other holistic modalities like Vedic switchwords, Dowsing, Colour Therapy, etc & so on.

Q4. What advice would you give to someone newly diagnosed with hypothyroidism?

Jyotsnaa: I would like to share with the readers that dealing with Thyroid issues becomes a bit easier when you are determined, follow rigorously your health regimen & most of all, have faith in yourself & the healing practices you are following. Once you surrender to the situation after a thyroid diagnosis that you have to take medicine for life, then there is no way out. You need to constantly reinforce your subconscious with positive thoughts so that healing comes to you naturally & effectively. Our mind creates our reality & this Universe acts like a magnet. It captures our thoughts ( irrespective of whether they are positive or negative) & returns them to us manifold. So, think & manifest positive thoughts.

Q5. How do you balance traditional medicine with alternative healing practices in your life?

Jyotsnaa: When I was diagnosed with Thyroid issues, I initially had to follow traditional medicine &  treatment to get control of the critical situation at that time. But later on, I shifted to alternative holistic practices as some years ago I had learned Reiki too. I followed Thyroid specific Yogasanas ( which are mentioned in the book along with their benefits as per my best knowledge), combined with the 7 Chakras healing, emphasizing more on Throat Chakra & related chakras.

Q6. Can you discuss the role of support, particularly from your husband, in your healing process?

Jyotsnaa: My husband, Navit, stood by me throughout the challenging journey whether it was following daily rituals religiously or lifestyle & dietary changes. Me & Navit, both were not comfortable with the idea of life-long medication. His unwavering support & care were instrumental in quitting the traditional methods, which could have resulted in life-long medication. This led us to explore the transformative power of alternative medicine & healing modalities, along with a shift to homeopathic medicines, lifestyle & dietary changes.

Q7. What are some common misconceptions about hypothyroidism that you aim to dispel through your book?

Jyotsnaa: The very first common misconception is that once the thyroid is diagnosed then you have to take medicine for life, which in my opinion, is not necessarily true. But one needs to start early to handle these issues. In the book, I have mentioned alternative healing practices that I followed myself & to get rid of Thyroid issues & since 2020, I have been free from any thyroid medication practices.

Another common misconception is that Hypothyroidism has only physical effects, which is not true. Hypothyroidism affects emotional and mental health as well, with experiences of anxiety, depression, and brain fog.

As we wrap up this chat, Jyotsnaa reminds us that dealing with hypothyroidism is not just about taking medication but also about making everyday choices that help you heal. With the right mindset, support, and a belief in holistic healing, managing thyroid issues can be a lot easier. Her book, Hypothyroidism Healed, is a simple guide that shows how natural methods can make a big difference in your health. Her story is a great reminder that small steps can lead to a healthier, medication-free life.
