Today, we delve into the depths of his creative mind, exploring the themes of romance, self-discovery, and duty that resonate deeply in his debut novel. Join us as we uncover the story behind the storyteller.

1. What inspired you to explore the themes of romance, self-discovery, and duty in “Pyaar Hai Shayad”?

Vineet:
Pyaar Hai Shayad marks my debut novel, and my journey into writing has always been fascinating. Initially, I engaged in expressing my thoughts through blogs and crafting short stories. The idea for Pyaar Hai Shayad emerged organically, and as I delved into the narrative, it became evident that the story possessed intricate elements best suited for a novel.

Being more at ease expressing myself in Hindi, my first language, I chose to explore the depths of storytelling in this language. The process allowed me to bring out the nuances of the narrative with a sense of authenticity and emotional resonance that I find integral to the theme of the novel.

2. How did you go about creating and developing the characters of Rajat and Payal, and what challenges did you face in shaping their individual journeys?

Vineet:
In the process of creating and developing the characters of Rajat and Payal, I intentionally selected names unfamiliar to me personally, ensuring a clean slate for their identities. The inspiration for their journey stemmed from a preconceived plot centered around the Indian Army, an institution that has been a profound source of inspiration in my daily life. Growing up with the influence of my father, who served in the special arm forces of the Madhya Pradesh Police, provided me with a unique perspective on the lives of those in the army and police, offering an authentic backdrop for my characters.

One notable challenge encountered in the writing process was formulating the conclusion of the story. It took me three years to settle on the final ending, as I grappled with conflicting ideas, especially regarding a conclusion that initially leaned towards a more negative tone. Seeking feedback from early readers played a pivotal role in refining the narrative. Their valuable suggestions and insights guided me through the intricate journey of completing the book, leading to a more satisfying and well-rounded conclusion.

3. The novel takes unexpected turns, such as the rejection of Payal’s proposal. Can you elaborate on the decision-making process behind these twists and their contribution to the overall message of the story?

Vineet:
The decision to incorporate the rejection of Payal’s proposal into the storyline was driven by a desire to delve into the internal conflicts faced by individuals serving in the army. The daily struggles of balancing personal relationships with the profound sense of duty to the nation served as a central theme. Through Payal’s rejection, I aimed to highlight the constant mental turmoil experienced by an Army personnel, emphasizing the sacrifices they make for the greater good.

Furthermore, the introduction of unexpected twists in the narrative was a deliberate choice to enhance the overall engagement of the story. In response to feedback from some readers expressing a desire for more unpredictable plots, I sought to create a storyline that defies conventional expectations. With Pyaar Hai Shayad, my intention was to keep readers on their toes, challenging them to anticipate the storyline’s direction while providing an immersive and unpredictable reading experience.

4. The subplot involving Rajat’s struggle with mathematics and Payal’s tutoring adds humor to the narrative. How did you balance serious themes with lighter moments, and why did you choose to include this aspect in the story?

Vineet:
Yes, the subplot involving Rajat’s struggle with mathematics and Payal’s tutoring was an unexpected yet delightful addition to the narrative. The inspiration for this humorous element struck me in a rather mundane yet relatable moment. While in the midst of writing, my mother called me to greet a neighbor, and that simple act sparked the idea of incorporating everyday interactions into the storyline.

In our country, it’s quite common for Indian mothers to introduce neighbors and encourage interactions among youngsters. This aspect added a touch of authenticity to the narrative, creating a humorous dynamic between Rajat and Payal. The intention was not only to infuse lighthearted moments into the story but also to reflect the genuine and often amusing aspects of daily life. It seemed to resonate well, contributing to Rajat’s character development and bringing a smile to the readers’ faces.

5. Rajat’s father plays a significant role in shaping his destiny. Could you discuss the importance of parental guidance in the novel and its reflection of broader societal expectations?

Vineet:
Yes, the portrayal of Rajat’s father in the novel emphasizes the pivotal role parents play in shaping the destinies of their children. The narrative seeks to underscore the profound sacrifices and challenges parents often endure silently for the well-being of their kids. Rajat’s initial struggles and his father’s constant concern serve as a poignant reflection of the often unspoken sacrifices parents make.

In our society, parents contribute significantly to their children’s lives, sometimes without their struggles being fully acknowledged. The depiction of Rajat’s father serves as a reminder of the selfless dedication and worries that parents carry for their children. Personally, drawing inspiration from my own parents, I aimed to weave this theme into the narrative, highlighting the often overlooked role that parents, especially those from the middle class, play in the success of their children. The story serves as a tribute to the unsung heroes in our lives, our parents, and their invaluable contributions to our journey of growth and success.

6. The story takes a bold turn with Rajat’s involvement in a national crisis. Can you share insights into your decision to integrate elements of patriotism and duty into the narrative and how it impacts the overall message of the book?

Vineet:
The turn of events involving Rajat’s participation in a national crisis was an unforeseen development, both for the character and the narrative. As readers delve into the story, they will discover that Rajat found himself in the wrong place at the right time, setting the stage for a series of incidents that propelled him into a position where he could demonstrate his patriotism and sense of duty towards the country.

The integration of elements of patriotism and duty serves to add layers of complexity to the storyline. Rajat’s engagement with the crisis catalyzes a sequence of events that significantly impact the trajectory of the narrative. This unexpected twist not only adds suspense and intensity to the plot but also underscores the notion that individuals, even in the most ordinary circumstances, can be called upon to make significant contributions to the greater good. It reinforces the idea that opportunities to showcase patriotism can arise unexpectedly, shaping the overall message of the book and emphasizing the potential for heroism in the most unexpected of circumstances.

7. What is your writing process like, especially when blending different genres? How do you keep readers engaged throughout the novel?

Vineet:
My approach to writing is a continuous learning process, evolving day by day. I have a simple method, relying on the timeless combination of pen and paper instead of digital devices like the iPad or laptop. Initially, I draft a concise outline of the overall story and then employ a methodical process to craft a narrative that captivates the reader’s attention. Through multiple self-reviews, I fine-tune and enhance the details within the story.

To broaden my storytelling skills, I am currently engrossed in the works of various Hindi novelists. This immersive exploration allows me to understand diverse narrative techniques and styles, fostering an environment of continual learning. The goal is to blend different genres seamlessly and keep readers engaged throughout the novel by weaving a compelling and nuanced tale.

8. “Pyaar Hai Shayad” explores themes of sacrifice and duty. Could you share your perspectives on these themes and how you believe they resonate with contemporary readers?

Vineet:
The exploration of themes such as sacrifice and duty in ‘Pyaar Hai Shayad’ is deeply personal for me. Having grown up in an environment surrounded by police and army personnel, I witnessed their lives intimately. Countless stories were shared with me by those in the army and police, and some of my close friends are currently serving in these professions. Therefore, delving into the themes of sacrifice and duty for my first novel was a natural choice, drawing directly from the profound experiences I’ve observed closely in my own life.

9. Are there specific scenes or moments in the book that are your favorites? What parts of the story were particularly challenging or rewarding to write?

Vineet:
The entire journey of writing ‘Pyaar Hai Shayad’ holds a special place in my heart, having embarked on this creative endeavor in 2014 and concluding it in 2021. The process of crafting this novel became an integral part of my life, with numerous readings and revisions etching the storyline into my memory. The narrative is not just a creation but a reflection of my personal connection to the story.

Among the most challenging aspects was crafting the ending. As I aimed for a satisfying and impactful conclusion, I found myself revisiting and modifying the final part multiple times. The search for the perfect ending was a prolonged yet rewarding process, with the culmination of the story undergoing approximately three significant changes before settling on the version now present in the book. Each iteration was a learning experience, contributing to the overall richness and depth of the novel.

10. Can you provide insights into any upcoming projects or themes you might be interested in exploring in your future works? What can readers expect from your future literary endeavors?

Vineet:
Absolutely! I am currently in the final stages of another novel, and I am thrilled about the prospect of sharing my second literary creation with the world. While it is still a work in progress and not yet ready for publication, the anticipation is building. I prefer not to divulge too many details at this point, as the story-line is subject to changes and revisions. However, I can assure readers that the upcoming novel promises to be a captivating and engaging journey. Stay tuned for updates, as I look forward to unveiling more about this project in the near future.
